Foundation Considerations

When planning for the construction of a foundation the depth of the water table has to be an important consideration

Water Table:
The depth (measured from the surface of the Earth) at which underground water is first encountered. Also called water level. The depth of the water table reflects the minimum level to which wells must be drilled for water extraction.

When initial construction takes place, if the water table is below the foundation there are few critical issues. Problems arise when torrential rains take place. The water table will rise significantly, flooding those foundations that were constructed very close to the water table.
