Heating Oil

7.7 million American households, mostly in the Northeastern states, rely on heating oil to keep warm in winter. Like any other market commodity, prices for home heating oil are subject to the effects of supply and demand.

Oil heat has always provided a winning combination: high efficiency and low emissions.  Thanks to new technology, the latest oil-fueled home heating systems allow near-zero emissions, while helping to ensure cleaner air for your family, your community, and generations to come.

Natural Gas

Natural Gas, also known as methane, is a colorless, odorless, fuel that burns cleaner than many other traditional fossil fuels. It is one of the most popular forms of energy today.

Natural gas is produced, sometimes along with oil, by drilling into the Earth's crust where pockets of natural gas were trapped hundreds of thousands of years ago. Once the gas is brought to the surface, it is refined to remove impurities, like water, other gasses, and sand. Then it is transmitted through large pipelines that span the continent.

The gas distributor adds an odorant to the gas as a safety measure so that people will be able to tell if there is a gas leak, or if they forget to turn off an appliance.
